- Here's some info I compiled after reading Steve Borden's post
- based on my recent experience and a friend's help:
-
- First, Ralph Babel's E-mail address, courtesy of the www.Four11.com
- directory service: rbabel@babylon.pfm-mainz.de
-
- Now, about GuruROM: I bought one for my WB3.0 A4000/040 when I
- had problems with Emplant's display and when showing a few
- Amiga graphics (particularly some24-bit IFFs). I had a technician
- put it in, but he botched the job, not getting all the jumper
- settings right and refusing to do anything to the HDToolBOx
- without charging to back up the HD. I, too, was getting
- an error message, even after a floppy boot and apparently
- successful boot "omniscsi.device 000 invalid selection
- and some (different) hex numbers". Then nothing responded
- any more to the mouse. We used DiskSalv 2 to repair the
- WB partition.
-
- Anyway, my friend has some comments:
-
- My controller card is an A2000 HC8+ Rev I with the 33C93A (I
- think that's the nomenclature) controller chip. Apparently
- it can cause noisy signals (EMI), which caused my problems
- with Emplant and the picture displays (the former would
- get a twisted screen midway through the Mac bootup, the latter
- would just trash the screen).
-
- Some ads suggest that the GuruROM for the A530 may be a bit
- different, perhaps due to the A530 (I have one) being
- in a closed space.
-
- Your blank screen may just be due to a longer bootup. Give
- it up to a minute. The controller is scanning for HDs to mount
- and it's not smart until you change stuff in HDToolBox.
